New Year! New Start! Latest results!
With another year passing, the battle weary veterans of RMM were another year older. Time will only tell some of the more hot headed RMMers will be wiser.
The following is a summary of games played through January:
RMM2 Starjet 1 (2 Jan 2011)
HISTORIC WIN
The idea of starting the year of on a postive note seemed remote for the veterans as they were matched up against bogey team Starjet on the 1st weekend of the year.
Having played their arch nemesis countless times over the past few years, RMM had never even drawn against the team that boasted several African All Stars. The sight of the entire Starjet squad warming up did little to dispel RMMs concerns about starting the year with a loss.
The result however was a rousing 2-1 victory to the veterans with Superstar Batigol and Hardman Joe finding the net in a game played over 3 halves.
So shocking was the result that RMMs own Master Of The Alternate Universe, Speedy (who was conspicuously absent from the game) was overheard asking a fellow RMMer if RMM had played Starjet’s C team.
When asked why he had so little faith in his teammates, the Master replied “I made a comment but I didn’t say anything”. Classic stuff from the Alternate Universe.
The fact to the matter was that Starjet played their A, B and C team and threw everything and their kitchen sink @ RMM over 3 halves but could not deny the veterans their 1st win over what used to be their bogey team.
RMM 2 Japan United 1 (9 Jan 2011)
SPAGHETTI LEGS
With the introduction a a few new players into the squad, it was no surprise that RMM lack cohesiveness as a team and went behind near the end of the 1st half.
The battle hardened veterans then came from behind to register their 2nd victory of the year thanks to goals from Mat Burit (who is looking to shed the title of Master Of Hit and Miss in 2011) and Blindman Poon.
The game however will be best remembered for Japan United’s goal off a freekick.
Taken 25 yards out, the ball seemed to float towards the RMM goal in a comfortable height and speed until RMMs keeper, Shark got his legs tangled up before falling over just as the ball arrived. Unable to stay on his feet, the giant keeper just about managed to palm the ball weakly into his own net.
RMM 3 Bangi Malay Boys 0 (16 Jan 2011)
ROYAL STROP
Working hard to shed his tag as the Master Of Hit and Miss, Mat Burit registered a hat trick in this game.
Fans attending the game however reserved the right to allow the chrome domed hit man to shed that tag as he has missed a couple of sitters before his scoring spree.
The highlight of the game came after the final whistle when RMMs Superstar striker Batigol was seen packing up in a hurry before throwing out his toys from his pram by stomping off like a bull elephant in heat. All without uttering a single word to his bemused teammates.
Who knows what goes through the mind of superstars?
But what we do know is that maybe some RMMers have not grown wiser over the new year.
RMM 3 Kelab Rootz 1 (23 Jan 2011)
THE RUN CONTINUES
Riding high off their winning start, the wily veterans just kept their winning mentality with another hard fought win.
Blindman Poon maintained his early season form as he continuously wrecked havoc on the Kelab Rootz defense and he was duly rewarded with the opener.
The boys from Kelab Roots equalized before Shark coolly stepped up to convert a penalty to give RMM the lead again.
During the run up to his penalty, the formerly dangerous hit man was heckled by a Rootz defender who said he will ‘aeroplane’ his shot. RMM fans will testify that the giant Shark is and will always be unable to generate enough power in his shots to ‘aeroplane’ it.
RMM then sealed it’s victory with a goal from newbie William Alber who bundled over from close range.
RMM 5 Kajang Veterans 2 (30 Jan 2011)
SINGING IN THE RAIN
Following this comprehensive victory, RMM ended the 1st month of the year with a 100% record. This could well be the best start to a season the veteran team has had ever.
The heavy downpour before the game did little to stop RMMs flowing football (the immaculate pitch helped) as the veterans strolled to a win with goals from all angles.
RMMs very own Superstar, the mighty Batigol weighed in with a brace (that’s 2 goals for those not in the know) with the other goals coming from Flash That and Mat Burit (who is still trying to shed his title of the Master Of Hit and Miss). Kajang Veterans helped out with an own goal as well.
This game also served to cement Zig Zack claim as RMMs no. 1 choice keeper and hopefully in the process retire the Master Of The Alternate Universe, Speedy from goalkeeping duties. Although the short shot stopper was comedic gold in goal, he was unfortunately utterly useless at keeping goal.
We do however need to point out that it’s not fault of the Master as more often than not, he was forced to keep goal against his will.
